The Corpse is a creature and the main antagonist from "The Big Toe" story of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
History[]
The Big Toe[]
The Corpse was buried into a ground for an unknown reason with it's toe sticking out of the ground, it's toe would be found by a boy and was ripped off to use for his family supper. That night, the Corpse awoke to look for the the individual that took it's toe, the Corpse initially walked around the boy's home before entering his room. The Corpse approached his bed and asked who had it's toe before screaming at the boy, saying "YOU'VE GOT IT!". The fate of the boy is left largely unknown, but it's possible he was killed the by the Corpse.
Alternate Ending[]
The story in the alternative ending remains mostly the same until the boy confronts the Corpse. The Boy looks downstairs and finds the Corpse in the fire place and after speaking to it, he is attacked by the creature as the story ends, the boy's fate is once again left unknown but he was most likely killed by the Corpse.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (film)[]
The Corpse appears in the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark film once again looking for her toe. After Auggie Hilderbrandt accidentally eats her toe in a soup, he is hunted by her, Auggie hides himself inside of his room while the Corpse searches for Auggie and asking who took her toe. The Corpse eventually opens the door to Auggie's room but doesn't enter it, causing Auggie to think it had left. While Auggie looks to see if the Corpse is in his room, he is dragged under the bed by the Corpse, who screams at him and drags him away to a dark void. Killing him.

Physical Appearance[]
The Corpse in the alternate ending was described to have big eyes, claws, large mouth, and sharp teeth. The Corpse also had a large toe that was stolen by the boy early in the story.
In the film, the Corpse is thin, eyeless, and has green skin along with black hair. The Corpse also wears a torn up dress and walks barefoot.
Personality[]
While not much is known about the Corpse, it is mostly shown with murderous intent, killing those who have stolen it's toe.
Trivia[]
- The Corpse's appearance in the film is visually based of the ghost's appearance in The Haunted House.
- The Jangly Man and The Corpse are the only two characters from the film to not have been fully seen in the stories. Furthermore, the Corpse's gender wasn't revealed until the film came out.
- The name of the Corpse is never said in the story, but Ramóne Morales refers to it as "A corpse" in the film. The film also credits it as "Big Toe Corpse" in the film's credits.
- The Corpse was ranked as #3 on Watchmojo's ranking of the scariest monsters in the film.
