Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (film)[]

On Halloween of 1968, Chuck and Auggie talks to Stella, who resists going Trick or Treating, but is persuaded to whenever Chuck tells her that they will get payback on Tommy Milner. Chuck fishes for feces in his toilet, but is caught by Ruth while doing so and promptly closes the door to the bathroom while asking for privacy. Afterwards, Chuck receives a costume of a spider despite wanting a costume of Spider-Man, and he complains about it to mother, who tells him to be thankful that God provided.

When Chuck is mockingly asked by his sister about the immaturity of him going trick or treating, he insults her before exiting his home, where he interacts with Auggie and demands to stop watching Ruth through the window. Chuck and Auggie both ride off on their bikes and meet up with Stella while Trick or Treating and talking to eachother, Stella doubts that Tommy will show up on Halloween, though Chuck protests saying he will. Chuck tells Tommy to come steal their candy until Tommy's car appears, prompting him to warn Stella and Auggie and telling them to act normal, with Chuck sticking his arm out waiting for Tommy to grab his bag full of feces. Tommy's gang does steal the bag, but he stops his car after discovering the bag contained feces, Tommy, Auggie, and Stella start vandalizing Tommy's car while it's stopped, Chuck insults Tommy before throwing a flaming bag of feces at him as he tries to escape in his car.

Tommy crashes his car due to failing to get the burning bag off of his lap and he, along with Ruth, exit the car, making Chuck realize that Ruth and Tommy were on a date. Ruth yells at Chuck while Tommy angrily vows to kill Stella, Auggie, and Chuck, prompting them to flee while they're chased by Tommy and his gang into a forest and soon into a drive in theater where they hide in Ramone Morales' car, which he immediately questions what they're doing in his car, to which Chuck responds that they're trying to save themselves. After Tommy's gang disappears, Chuck sniffs Ramon's blanket and asks if he lives in his car, Ramon demands Chuck to stay out of his belongings, but Auggie and Chuck start arguing after he asks Ramon a few questions about him. Tommy and Chuck do stop after Stella tells them to, and they introduce themselves to Ramon after, but they are found by Tommy soon after.

Tommy's gang are escorted by an employee at the theater, but Stella was saddened by a reminder of her mother's absence, Ramon asked Chuck and Auggie why she was saddened and the two explained that her mother left her. Stella decides to go to a haunted house due to it being Halloween, and Ramon drives all three of them there where upon arriving, Auggie is fearful of the house which causes him to be made fun of by Chuck. While inside of the house, Auggie is terrified by Chuck which causes him to chase him as a game of hide and seek. Chuck enters one of the rooms of the Bellows' home and hides in a closet and while hiding, Chuck is transported to a time period before the Bellows house was taken down and he sees Gertrude Bellows, as Chuck observes the now lit up room, Gertrude slowly turns around, causing Chuck to immediately close the doors to the closet. Chuck remains quiet as he hears footsteep approaching the door, and the closet is eventually opened by Auggie.

Upon exiting the closet, Chuck confusingly asks where Gertrude and the black dog that was with her had gone, and yells to Stella that they need to leave the home, but is called over by Stella herself after she discovers a book.
